Guardian new books prize

Did you notice that two of our books have been short-listed for The Guardian First Book Award?  Among our 96 nominations are The Spinning Heart by Donal Ryan and Kiss Me First by Lottie Moggach.  I have only read one of these so far and I liked it very much (but I’m not saying which!).  What do others think?

Another book award short list (Costa First Novel) and again Nathan Filer’s The Shock of the Fall is there but this time it’s in the company of Kate Clanchy’s Meeting the English and Sam Byer’s Idiopathy. Idiopathy is proving to be a bit love it or hate it with Waverton readers. It will be interesting to see which way it goes.

Yes, and another 4 are in the Specsavers ‘Books are my Bag New Writer of the Year’ short-list. (What a strange name for an award.) Again, Lottie Moggach is there but also James Oswald’s Natural Causes, Nathan Filer’s The Shock of the Fall and Gavin Extence’s The Universe Versus Alex Woods. There are so many strong contenders for this year’s WGRA.
